We specialise in the design of new build and the renovation of existing chalets with designs that are sympathetic to their locality and carefully considered in terms of budget, client aspirations and buildability.

An experienced British architect, Chris has been a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects since 1991 and the l’Ordre des Architectes since 2010. He spent the early years of his career working in a large practice in London gaining a broad range of experience including hotels, leisure, large scale residential and commercial London offices.
Alpine Design Studio was created in 2007 after he and his wife Helen moved to the French Alps and launched their boutique, luxury chalet company, The Alpine Club. This afforded Chris the opportunity to renovate and build his own chalets, something he became passionate about.
Chris has developed an understanding of what works in luxury alpine residences. The unique potential of each project is fully explored to create imaginative and beautiful mountain homes for our clients, tailored to their individual requirements and aspirations.
We are intentionally a small practice. This enables us to create personal working relationships, tailored collaborations and a unique end product that reflects the distinct inputs of both us and the client.
We understand our client’s experience because we have lived it; having built and renovated chalets for both our own personal and professional use. We are in a unique position to advise our clients how to design or renovate a building which respects the local area, adheres to the guidelines and restrictions of the local planning departments and which combines style with practical use.
We focus on the design of the project and then collaborate with project mangers to realise the project.
